As you are preparing for, or finishing up, the first day of work at our jobsite, what is your mission here this week?
Jesus says in Matthew 18, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
This week, in this place, it is easy to feel like we are on mission, following and doing what Christ has commanded when he told us to go and make disciples and to love our neighbor.
We often try to complicate missions, making them a big event or trip to another country or place where we serve and give. But the reality is that missions are simply loving one another as Christ loved us. In John 13 Jesus give us a new commandment when he says, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
Our mission and our focus this week should be to love. To love our homeowners. To love our those on our crew. To love those from our church. To love those who are strangers here this week. To love those who are strangers back home. And to ultimately love those who are strangers throughout the world.
Take a moment to reflect over and to pray the Lord’s prayer:
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever, amen.
Focus on these lines:
“Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven.”
Think about and write down your mission here this week.
- How does that fit into God’s overall mission, to see His kingdom here on earth?
- Is there anything that you need to put aside so that you can be on mission and love others here this week?
Pray that God would open your heart and your eyes to the many ways that you can show His love this week.
